Omid Shaye, M.D. Medical Oncologist and Hematologist

Dr. Omid Shaye
Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Dr. Omid Shaye sees one of the major benefits of being a partner in Wellness Oncology & Hematology as being able to provide advanced care, close to home, for residents of the San Fernando Valley and beyond.

An admitted academic through and through, Dr. Shaye's choice of Medical Oncology and Hematology is rooted in his passion for improving each patient's overall wellness. His approach begins with the application of personalized care as opposed to general care. He helps each patient visualize a future filled with hope while steadfastly engaging in the most promising treatments as medical science inches closer to a cure for cancer.

As a Medical Oncologist and Hematologist, Dr. Shaye brings a comprehensive approach to cancer care to his patients. Since medical oncology requires an intimate understanding of how all the body's organs function and interact, Dr. Shaye is able to determine detailed courses of care and treatment designed to enhance his patient's overall well-being. Serving as a figurative primary care physician for cancer, Dr. Shaye oversees the individual treatments such as radiation, surgery, or chemotherapy which together combine to result in the healing or improving of the patient's life.

Dr. Shaye places great importance on his collaboration with Dr. Lashkari as well as other physicians, medical professionals, and alternative therapies, as he sees his role as the 'quarterback of a patient's cancer treatment.'

Of course, as a result of serving as the primary oncology physician in a patient's life, Dr. Shaye develops very close relationships with patients and their families. Spending time getting to really know and understand his patients is not only vital to a successful treatment plan, but enables Dr. Shaye to know his patients beyond their disease, which does not define who they are as a person. He values the personal relationships that develop and sees them as a priceless addition to the satisfaction that comes from helping a patient on the road to wellness.

Dr. Shaye understands that cancer is a very personal disease, with its own unique genetics and molecular structure, just like the patients who are fighting it. As an academic, he appreciates the field of studying the genetic markers, indeed the very DNA of cancers which is better understood by the day. What scientists and doctors thought they knew yesterday may very well change tomorrow with the rapid fire rate in which new technologies, therapies and treatments are emerging. Dr. Shaye is humbled and honored to be a part of this process of discovery, playing a personal role through Wellness Oncology & Hematology's own work in clinical trials. He looks forward to serving as a physician, researcher, and contributor to the field of cancer treatment for decades to come.

Outside of research work, and family life with his wife and young children, Dr. Shaye is an active member of MOASC (Medical Oncology Association of Southern California), ASH (American Society of Hematology), ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology). He also works closely with the American Cancer Society and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
