WELLNESS ONCOLOGY & HEMATOLOGY
Leukemia is the general name for all types of cancer which affect the blood and the bone marrow (center of our bones where blood cells are formed). When blood cells grow abnormally and out of control, the diagnosis is usually called leukemia. There are many forms of leukemia but the four most common forms are: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. These common blood and bone marrow cancers are named according to the type of cell affected. There are many other forms of blood and bone marrow cancers and disorders, including but not limited to Hairy Cell Leukemia, Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia and Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia.
Because of the wide ranging forms of leukemia, the numerous stages of cancer, and the varying maturation of cells involved, Dr. Shaye, Dr. Lashkari, and Dr. Ho study your unique form of leukemia taking into consideration all of the variations, and will customize a rigorous course of treatment that will include regular updates about your progress, possible new treatment options and changes in the status of your disease.
