Plasma Cell Disorders
Plasma cells are a type of white blood cells which produce antibodies in response to inflammation. Healthy plasma cells will replicate exactly, becoming mirror images or clones of their parent cell. When plasma cells develop mutations they can grow abnormally and lead to deficiencies in fighting off infections as contribute other symptoms. One such plasma cell disorder, or cancer, is Multiple Myeloma in which plasma cells are replicating abnormally and producing too much of an un-needed antibody leading to end-organ damage such as anemia, kidney dysfunction, hypercalcemia, and bone fractures.
All people with Plasma Cell Disorders should be under the care of specialized hematologists, for the best possible treatment options and close monitoring of the disorder. Dr. Shaye, Dr. Lashkari, and Dr. Ho have special interest and expertise in the treatment of plasma cell disorders, especially multiple myeloma. At Wellness Oncology & Hematology, we are excited to offer tailored therapy and incorporate new advancements in the treatment of Multiple Myeloma.
